Your four legged friend is in for a real treat when you make these Sweet Potato & Honey Dog Treats!
They’re super simple and quick to make with only four ingredients and a few basic tools so nothing fancy required!
So let’s get started…
– 400g mashed sweet potato (do this in advance to allow to cool)
– 2 tbsp runny honey
– 450g wholemeal flour + extra for dusting
– 1 egg
– 1 beaten egg (egg wash)
– bowls for ingredients
– rubber spatula
– weighing scales
– wire rack
– rolling pin
– baking tray
– parchment paper
– pastry brush – cookie cutters (opt)
- Peel and boil the sweet potato until soft. Drain and the mash until smooth and allow to cool down completely.
- Preheat the oven to 170 degrees (140 degrees fan)/340F/Gas Mark 3
- Mix the sweet potato mash with the honey until combined and give the bowl a scrape.
- Add the egg and mix until combined and give the bowl a scrape.
- Add in a third of the flour and mix on low speed, scrape the bowl and add more flour. Continue to mix, scrape the bowl and add the flour until it is all combined and forms into a dough.
- Lightly dust your table with flour and remove the dough from the bowl. Knead the dough and shape into a ball and start to roll it out, turning it every now and then.
- Roll out the dough until it is roughly 7mm thick and start to cut out the shapes using a cookie cutter. If you don’t have any cookie cutters, you can simply pinch a bit of dough, roll into a ball and flatten with your thumb or with the back of a fork.
- Once all of the dough has been cut into shapes, lightly coat them with an egg wash.
- Bake in the oven for 20 minutes or until golden.
- Remove the cookies and place them on a wire rack to cool completely, preferably overnight before putting them into an airtight container or jar.
And there you go 🙂 I hope you’ve enjoyed my Sweet Potato & Honey Dog Treats!

Hey there my friend!
Thank you so much for taking a genuine interest in me and my business. I appreciate that you care and want to hear why I’m taking a pivot in M Bakery. In return, I hope to inspire you whether you’re considering taking a pivot in your business, career or just life in general.
I want to start by saying us humans are afraid of failure because we make it personal and make it mean that we’re not good enough, we haven’t achieved our goals and whatever other stories we tell ourselves. When in fact, it’s the complete opposite. I’ve learnt that failure is an important step to success and the main thing is we keep moving, experimenting and most importantly, have fun! It’s OK to fail and true failure is actually stopping and giving up on your dreams, your desires and what makes you happy.
I know I’ve been very quiet over the last year and a half. As some of you may know, M Bakery is a side business of mine as I work in the corporate world. I was fortunate enough to work locally but since August 2018, I had to pretty much relocate to Glasgow. This of course took a huge hit on M Bakery as I was only able to bake during the weekends! So I made the decision (very early on in moving to Glasgow) that this wasn’t sustainable and I had to make the business work for me, not work for my business.
“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” —Seneca
This is where I decided to set up the online cake decorating business. To be honest, I had this idea up my sleeve a year prior and before I even knew my work life would have a massive change, I actually admitted and confessed to myself that serving beautiful and happy soon-to-be-wed couples with wedding cakes wasn’t actually serving me. I love interacting with people and teaching so the transition to create online cake decorating videos was an easy one to make.
As I write this now, it’s actually dawned on me that my decision to accept that I didn’t enjoy making wedding cakes (as much as I thought I would) was a huge shift in my identity. By accepting, which I considered at the time “failure”, put things into alignment to help me move to new beginnings. Moving to Glasgow was out of my control and it forced me to re-evaluate my business….a harsh lesson but one for the better.
The way I see it is that things happen for us and not to us. Sometimes we just have to make “small” and temporary sacrifices like being away from home, in order to achieve bigger and better things. Like a catapult, the further you’re pulled back, the further you’ll shoot forward is my little metaphor that I like to use.
Anyway, I appreciate that you probably wasn’t expecting this deep philosophical stuff but this is what I’ve been learning since I’ve been away and feel like I’m ready now to step into the next chapter of my business.
So my next phase is creating an online cake decorating membership site where I teach you how to become a pro baker so that you can bake and decorate cakes with ease. If I can help you release your creative side no matter how “creative” you think you are or how busy you are with kids, work, being a loving partner, then I’m a very happy bunny.
I’ve always said to Justin, my husband, that if I wasn’t baking or doing something creative, I wouldn’t be my whole self. It’s such an integral part of my identity and so I make it a priority to be as creative as I can, whenever I can.
